The Front Porch is a nonprofit community cafe providing:
In 2008 the village of Ellsworth was struggling. The only diner in town had closed as did the only local grocery store. The people of Ellsworth found themselves with no place to buy groceries, eat breakfast, or gather together for coffee and conversation.
The need for a place to eat, drink and connect was going unmet. Inevitably, the community began to feel a sense of disconnect along with a general sense of economic despair. Each time a business closed,, it meant reduced traffic for all the other businesses in town, and it seemed Ellsworth was being hopelessly sucked into a downward economic spiral.
With the efforts of many community members who spent tireless hours volunteering their time and expertise the Front Porch Cafe was established. The Front Porch Cafe is now a thriving place for people to eat, drink and connect. A true gathering spot featuring great food, affordable prices and a friendly atmosphere.
Our needs however are still great. What still remains is a need for ongoing volunteer help, meal sponsers for struggling families, financial contributions to improve our building efficiency as well as cover our general expenses, and food purchases.
